What did you do before this?

I’ve spent the last 16 years in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries working to design and develop automation platforms ranging from high throughput protein production to compound storage and retrieval platforms.

Why did you come here?

I am passionate about using creative processes and innovation to automate various elements in a lab setting. I was excited by the opportunity to join the Zymergen team and play a critical role from the very beginning — I was eager to share my unique perspectives and experiences in both hardware and software development to create a world-class automation team. I thrive in a collaborative environment where alternative approaches and novel ideas are encouraged and supported.

What’s your work at Zymergen really like?

Working at Zymergen is exciting because every day involves variety. In my role, a typical day can range anywhere from assembling a new robotic platform, to helping troubleshoot issues with automation, to collaborating with scientists in the lab or to building new hardware and software tools.

What do you like most about your role?

It is inspiring to work with high caliber professionals who are passionate about the work they do and committed to the vision of the company.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys backpacking, road biking and landscape photography.
