Welcome to the Zymergen Tech Blog
Stay tuned to get a glimpse into what we’re building, the tools we use, and the team that makes it all possible.
With more ways to alter the DNA of a simple single-celled microbe than there are atoms in the universe, biology represents one of the world’s most complex data problems. At Zymergen, we embrace this complexity. We’ve built a platform that integrates software, data science, and automation in order to search beyond the bounds of human intuition. That’s why we like to say that we are as much a technology company as we are a biology company.
With robots that carry out experiments in high throughput, a robust data infrastructure that captures an enormous volume of data, and proprietary algorithms that accelerate our search over time, our platform reflects a manufacturing approach to biology. This approach requires a new way of thinking as well as a new set of tools.
Today we’re launching the Zymergen Technology Blog to give some technical insight into the tools we’re building and the team building those tools. You can expect us to cover a wide array of topics from the wide range of folks who make up our Technology team — from software engineers and data scientists to computational biologists and automation engineers. In some posts you may learn how we’re applying existing technologies in new ways; in other areas, the techniques we’re developing represent something wholly new.
We’re excited to kick off this discussion to engage the broader engineering community, so stay tuned to learn more about the new technologies we’re developing, the way we’re applying existing technologies, and the lessons we’re learning — both about tech and about teams — along the way.
